Walk & Talk Therapy

Also known as nature or outdoor therapy, this therapeutic approach takes traditional talk therapy outdoors on a walk or hike together where you will reap all of the tremendous benefits that Mother Earth has to offer.

Walk and Talk Therapy

Walk & Talk Therapy

Being raised in Tennessee, I grew up hiking the beautiful trails of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Whether I was meandering slowly as a little girl, adventuring and exploring as a youth, or hiking begrudgingly as teenager, I have always been taken with the impact of connection that I experienced: to myself, to my siblings, to my parents, to natural beauty, and to the world at large. Like all families, we weren’t without our issues, but we loved each other. These times spent together always grounded us, re-centered us, and reminded us of just that. This experience shaped my love for being outdoors and experiencing the pure magic of our world. Ultimately, it has driven my passion for incorporating this practice into the psychotherapeutic relationship.

Walk & Talk Therapy

Walk & Talk Therapy is a therapeutic approach that combines traditional counseling with physical activity in an outdoor setting through walking or hiking. Not only does the physical movement encourage stress reduction, but the natural environment can also reduce anxiety, increase relaxation, and enhance overall mood. The change of scenery from a standard therapy office setting can also lend to a more open-feeling atmosphere for natural therapeutic conversations. Walking naturally creates a space for engaging in mindfulness practices, allowing clients to be more present-focused in the here and now. Combined with the grounding effect that walking fosters, Walk & Talk Therapy can enhance self- reflection, insight, and self- awareness. This ultimately lends to the potential for an even deeper exploration of client emotions, thoughts, and behaviors.

In my opinion, how lovely to be outdoors, processing your feelings and experiences, while developing a deeper inner knowing and awareness at the same time?!
